Holidays are a time to relax, unwind, and explore new destinations. But for many of us, staying in shape while on holiday can feel like a daunting challenge. From indulging in delicious local cuisines to lounging by the pool with a cocktail in hand, it’s easy to let our healthy habits slip away. However, with the right strategies and mindset, it’s entirely possible to enjoy your vacation while still prioritising your health and fitness goals. Here are some tips to help you stay in shape on holiday, including some personal insights and tricks.
Get your Protein in
Let’s face it your favourite homemade chilli-tofu dishes are going to be hard to find, unless you’re really lucky. We have to accept that its 2024 and not 2124 so plant-based cuisine is still scarce when venturing the globe. Pack a sandwich bag of protein powder and a scoop! I start the day with 30g of protein and then make the rest up with whatever I find on my travels. Make sure to let the customs officer know what it is to avoid confusion!
Fasting
Embrace Intermittent Fasting: Intermittent fasting is a popular eating pattern that involves cycling between periods of eating and fasting. While on holiday, consider incorporating intermittent fasting into your routine. This can help you control your calorie intake, regulate your hunger levels, and even boost your metabolism. Plus, it’s a flexible approach that allows you to indulge in local delicacies without guilt.
Opt for Wine Over Beer: Alcoholic beverages are often a staple of holiday celebrations, but they can also pack a significant calorie punch. If you’re watching your waistline, consider swapping beer for wine. Wine generally contains fewer calories than beer and offers additional health benefits, such as antioxidants. Just remember to enjoy alcohol in moderation and balance it with plenty of water.
